WP5
WP5 – Data products for ocean state and OWF impact assessment
Overview
This Work Package provides data products to accurately estimate the present-day ocean state and to assess the impacts of offshore wind farms (OWFs) in the marine environment under current and future climate conditions. The main objectives are: (i) To generate regional and sub-regional data products for the North and Baltic Seas. (ii) To develop tailored products for focused OWF applications and decision-support. (iii) To produce and demonstrate “what-if” scenario products to assess cumulative and climate-change impacts.
WP5 integrates the results from modelling (WP3), data-driven methods (WP4), and data management (WP2) to deliver scientifically robust and user-oriented products for OWF industry and agencies.

WP5 Meeting Notes
Tasks
The WP5 is divided into four main tasks:
- WP5.T1 – Generation of regional products (Lead: SMHI)
Description: Production of baseline regional products for the North Sea–Baltic Sea domain, including: (i) Wind fields with wakes using pyWake and ClimateDT winds. (ii) Ocean, wave, and sea-ice reanalysis simulations (2010–2020). (iii) Climate simulations (2010–2020 and 2040–2050) using Climate DT forcings.
- WP5.T2 – Generation of sub-regional products (Lead: FMI / HEREON / IOPAN / NIVA / SMHI / TalTech / ULiege)
Description: Development of high-resolution sub-regional products for targeted areas (e.g. S. North Sea, Wadden Sea, NE Baltic). Focus on coupled physical-biogeochemical-wave models to evaluate OWF impacts on water quality, eutrophication, oxygen, and biodiversity indicators.
- WP5.T3 – Development of tailored products for focused applications (Lead: IOPAN / FMI / DMI / HEREON / NIVA / TalTech / ULiege)
Description: Co-designed products (with WP1) for practical applications, including: – Wave products for floating OWFs (NE Baltic) – Sea-ice products for design and operations – Indicators for multi-use sites and climate impacts – Forecast-based products for O&M using AI tools from WP4
- WP5.T4 – Development of solutions for what-if scenarios for decision-making (Lead: FMI / DMI / IOPAN / HEREON / NIVA / SMHI / TalTech / ULiege)
Description: Demonstration of DTO4OWE capability to evaluate sub-regional “what-if” scenarios, such as: – Cumulative OWF impacts on ocean physics, biogeochemistry, and ecosystems – Multi-use site effects (Wadden Sea) – Large-scale physical impacts of OWF clusters – Climate-change impacts with and without OWF development.
